A new season, time for a new you!

Some people enjoy hitting the gym regularly while there are those who don’t even want to hear any mention of the G-Y-M word.

Exercising regularly will leave you feeling energised, a lot more invigorated and more toned, leaner, with less body fat and an improved quality of life with less health complications and sicknesses unlike if you don’t exercise at all.

Exercising not only gives you a good looking body which ultimately boosts your confidence but it also results in you having a better mind set and outlook on life, allowing you to see obstacles as challenges rather than as setbacks.

Having an inactive lifestyle means you are more at risk of getting cardiovascular diseases such as diabetes, cholesterol, and many other heart diseases. If you’re worried that keeping fit will cost you an arm and a leg, there are other affordable means of keeping fit without the bill of a gym contract. Getting fit and healthy can be done at home using your own body weight and the normal everyday things around you as equipment, here are a few tricks to get you started:

Walking

Walking around your neighbourhood is an effective way to get your heart rate up, what’s also nice is that you can get some fresh air while enjoying the scenery; you can even take your dogs along with you for a little bonding time. If you live in a complex or a block of flats or a house with stairs you can walk up and down the flight of stairs a couple of times.

Jumping Jacks

Remember when you were in pre-school or primary school and you used to do these? Let the memories transport you back to how fun these used to be. They are effective as a cardio exercise or for warming up just before you get to do other exercises, so reach back to your childhood and start jumping jack.

Squats

Squats are an effective exercise for your legs and buttocks. If you find them too hard, you can try using a chair, by sitting and standing up repeatedly until you’re comfortable to go lower without the assistance of a chair. To know if you’re doing them right you should start to feel the burning sensation in your thighs and buttocks.

Push Ups

Doing push ups will help get your arms and chest toned and you could do this anywhere you like, the good thing is you can do these anywhere around your home, from the bedroom to the lounge or outside in the garden. Should you find the conventional push up hard to do, you can do one where you are balancing on your knees or you can do them against a wall.

Planking

This exercise targets the core area by forcing you to straighten out and stretch your abs. You do planks by lying flat on the floor and raising yourself up with your elbows and toes and you must keep this position for one minute; when you start to feel the burning sensation that’s where your core is stretching, increase your time as you go along.

Supermans

Ever secretly wanted to be a super hero saving the world? Make this your chance, by saving your body and health.  Lie face down on the floor and with your arms outstretched in front of you and your legs outstretched, then in one movement lift up your arms and legs towards the ceiling leaving your middle section to form a U shape, repeat these ten times or more, burning yet?

Getting some form of exercise is important for everyone, more so if you are an adult, are overweight, and have a stressful full time job. All you need is to just get your blood pumping and your heart rate up. You don’t need to join a gym to achieve this. If you prefer training alone at home these exercises are perfect, so gear up and start exercising. What’s nicer about exercising by yourself is that you can put the money you would have spent on a gym contract towards where you need it most, like getting a home and household contents insurance to protect your possessions against theft, loss or damage from us.
