Top five romantic getaways

Tuesday, 2 February 2016

Let’s face it; everybody loves going on holiday. Some people might not enjoy the planning part and packing; however when it comes to the actual travelling, everyone will agree that it is by far the best thing ever.

February is known as the month of love and what better way to show love than by whisking your partner away on a mini holiday for two? Yes, you may have just returned from your December holiday but we’re pretty sure that you wouldn’t mind a weekend getaway to rekindle your relationship and to recharge your batteries.

That’s why we thought we should tell you about a few places that are a perfect retreat for a weekend away for two:

Ikhayalamafu Mountain Hideaway, KwaZulu-Natal

Ikhayalamafu Mountain Hideaway, which means ‘home in the clouds’ in isiZulu, is located in the Drakensburg Mountains. The lodge offers two self-contained luxury cabins that are far from each other to offer a sense of privacy. This hideaway high up in the mountains is definitely the perfect place to go with your partner to rediscover the true meaning of alone time once again.

Nibelhiem Cottage, Hogsback, Eastern Cape

Situated in the Eastern Cape town of Hogsback, Nibelhiem Cottages consist of a cluster of small wooden cottages that are built on stilts in the forest. The Nibelhiem cottages are built within an indigenous forest and are fully self-catering to ensure that you are not disturbed during your stay. The Hogsback region is known for its lush gardens which change depending on the season; this is indeed the perfect place for nature-lovers and people who want to escape city life for a while.  The area is abundant with birdlife, and you may even spot a Samango monkey if you’re lucky, running around in the mystical forest as they are indigenous to the region.

Dream Lodge, Magaliesberg, North West

Although Dream Lodge is situated in the foothills of the Magaliesberg Mountains, it feels like it’s miles away from civilisation. The only visible thing for miles and miles around is open bushveld. The lodge offers thatch cottages and has no electricity so you can be sure that there won’t be unnecessary distractions. It is an ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The establishment has three different self-catering cottages which are situated 2km apart from each other to ensure privacy and seclusion to each guest.

Paternoster Dunes Guest Lodge

Situated in the picturesque fishing town of Paternoster in the Western Cape, The Dunes Guest House offers visitors an opportunity to stay in one of their five individually decorated rooms. The guest house aims to offer a home-away-from-home experience which will ensure that visitors do really get to relax and be in their element.  The guest house is situated on the beach front, which offers guests unlimited access to the very peaceful and serene beach on their doorstep.

Great Fish River Lodge (Kwandwe Game Lodge)

The Great Fish River Lodge is located in the Eastern Cape along the famous Garden Route. The lodge is situated within a nature reserve and is home to thousands of wild of animals which include lions, black and white rhino, buffalo, elephant and cheetah, plus many other animals too. The Great Fish River Lodge, also known as The Kwandwe Game Lodge, which is the Xhosa word for ‘Blue Crane’, is also home to the vulnerable blue crane species. If you and your partner want to relax amidst the many wild animals, this is the perfect place to do it.

With all these great places available to spend the weekend, there is really no reason why you and your partner can’t get away from it all and recharge your batteries in an idyllic setting. Before starting the car and heading out though, make sure your vehicle insurance is up to date. Auto & General will offer you fantastic car insurance quotes online without fuss and they can also get you covered in minutes, ensuring that none of your time is wasted.
